Root, Root, Root for the Home Team

I don’t care much about baseball, but my grandparents were die-hard Giants fan (Take Me Out to the Ballgame was sung at both of their funerals). I’ve thought about my grandparents so much this week as their beloved Giants won the World Series, and I thought about them today standing on Montgomery Street watching Willie Mays in the parade.

The parade was a great chance of pace downtown. The Financial District is usually so boring, so predictable with all the workers in their blue button-down shirts and khacki pants. But today had such energy.  BART was packed full of excited fans rather than half-asleep commuters and Montgomery Street was decorated with orange and black and fans wearing Giants gear and panda hats lined the streets hours before the parade started.

Confetti rained down from the office buildings. Kids threw it happily out office windows on to the crowds below. Workers gathered in the windows overlooking the street or poured out of their office buildings, happy to get a few hours away from their desks.
