I know i feel threatened every time i see a mexican wearing "mexican clothes" at a western union. Duck and Cover!
I also like the chewy skunk smell. That's worth dialing 911 :)

When I grew up in SF I would walk thru GG park to experience Fall; I especially liked The Bandstand, between the Steinhart and the DeYoung, where the deciduos Oaks (Sycamores??? or whatever) surrounding the seating area displayed some fall color. Then in winter months, after those trees dropped their leaves, the trees looked comical and grotesque w/ their stubby branches. I miss SF in many ways but embrace the change of seasons experienced in the Foothills.

Yay, a pickler is born! As a confirmed pickle addict, this makes me happy. Glad to have had some small part in your conversion.

I'm using pickling salt for the first time ever. I couldn't find it last year and used kosher instead. Pickling salt is finer, so it dissolves faster, but BiRite folks are right, kosher is okay too.

How sweet that you have such pleasant thoughts when looking at tourists. We had a surprisingly large invasion recently (three events going at once) and i just had to keep reminding myself, practically by chanting, "I've been one of them before. We've all been tourists..." Of course when you're driving, inconveniences seem exaggerated.

I'm so jealous / excited for your southern italy extravaganza. Take lots of pictures for me...

Mmm, I want to try them. I love dill pickles. I'm still not over how great your granola is, though that's probably far from your mind in August.
